The Supreme Court campaign finance ruling last Thursday means corporations can spend freely on political ads leading up to elections. The Thursday decision invalidates portions of the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign-finance reform law that sought to limit corporate influence. If you want to understand whether this decision was a positive development for everyday Americans, you need only look to the immediate reaction of those on the far Left -- elitists that want to speech to be controlled by government bureaucrats.

If you want to understand what was at stake in the Court's decision, watch the following 5 minute video produced by the CATO Institute.

Re: A Victory for Freedom of Speech    By Cliff on 1/30/2010
Wow. So, if the Supreme Court hadn't ruled against laws that have been in place for - what, 70 years? - we'd be at grave risk of the government banning books, newspapers, toys, and the First Amendment. Even though no such thing has been done for 70 years. The Supreme Court acted just in time. I'm going to stockpile my bunker anyway.

"But as the plan of the convention aims only at a partial union or consolidation, the State governments would clearly retain all the rights of sovereignty which they before had, and which were not, by that act, EXCLUSIVELY delegated to the United States." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 32
