Congress Voted to Defund ACORN, but some Members Continue to Support the Discredited Group
ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has come under intense fire as a result of a string of undercover videos produced by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles being released to the media. The videos catch ACORN workers eager to help a pimp who plans to run for Congress and his prostitute girlfriend get housing to use as a brothel to be staffed by underage illegal immigrants, and file fraudulent tax documents. In the wake of these incriminating videos, the White House has terminated its plans to use ACORN to help conduct the next national census that will be used to redraw the nation’s congressional districts and set the level of representation in Congress from each state.
Yesterday the US House voted 345-75 to cut-off all federal funding for the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). This comes on the heels of the Senate's vote earlier in the week to deny housing funds for ACORN 7 Senators voted to continue the funding, though.
All Congressional votes in favor of continuing ACORN funding were by Democrats, including Representatives Keith Ellison (Minneapolis/5th district) and Betty McCollum (St. Paul/4th district).
ACORN has been tied to voter registration fraud, with several of their employees charged with election crimes. Investigations into ACORN’s election registration activities are underway in two dozen states and 70 ACORN employees in 12 states have been convicted of voter fraud. Unfortunately, in Minnesota, where thousands of irregularities including records showing votes by the dead, felons and non-citizens may have impacted the 2008 election, our ACORN-endorsed secretary of state Mark Ritchie and ACORN-endorsed attorney general Lori Swanson don’t seem at all interested in investigating.
Since 1995, ACORN has received more that $50 million in federal funds in addition to untold dollars from various state governments.
The fact that Ellison and McCollum could vote to continue funding ACORN in the face of such overwhelming evidence of systemic corruption is inexcusable and brings shame upon the state of Minnesota.
Representatives Oberstar, Kline, Bachmann, Peterson and Walz voted against continuing taxpayer support of ACORN.

| It is their duty to address the people and explain why they would fund a government corrupt program with taxpayers money! |

sorry. I heard "a few bad apples?" being paid with other peoples money. Every Acorn org. is obviously trained that way. Leads to investigation of all government programs. I hope the IRS is honest and investigates everyone associated by income of pay of tax dollars.
It seems any "good work" defined by anyone sponsoring must be the years they've gotten away with it.
Since when is it government's job to run a bias program?
That is distorting the government's job which is the opposite. Tax dollars are suppose to go to the equal benefit of all! Their conduct is suppose to hold no bias, racism, discrimination of race, culture. creed.Nor should there be programs endorsing one party over another with TAX DOLLARS! And yet they've been extremely unethical for years.
The schools categorize the children by race, creed, culture when you look up their grades. What message is the school board indoctrinating? They're promoting racism. We're Americans! |

| the most effective message that can be sent to Ellison and McCollum is not to send them back for another term. The public servants for Minnesota need to hear loud and clear that we will not stand for this. Yes you can just blow this off along with all the other corruption, you can argue that its to wide spread or that your only one voice - but that's the kind of thinking that has us here now. Time to wake up !! Time to realize you can make a difference. Let them know !! |

First of all, who hired this so called "undercover prostitute and pimp"? Next, how do you know these films haven't been "doctored"? I see where this whole group is coming from....you are the name callers, you are the ones spinning and outright lying about President Obama's Health Reform Plan. All I have to do is see Michele Bachman's name on there and that tells me all I need to know. She is an "airhead" and many people wonder how she has gotten elected?????? Money????? They would like to see her booted out! When you can start telling the truth and quit using scare tactics, I might have some interest in what you say, until then, don't bother me!!l

| Of all the organizations, corporations, military contractors and "preachers" the right-wing could go after for real, and significant corruption and total waste of taxpayer money, they choose, of course, ACORN. Only the republicans could make both hospice, and community organizing, dirty, filthy words. ACORN has been a target of republicans for over five years, because they organize, educate, and help....wait for it, wait for it......poor people and minorities, not to mention young people and seniors. Nothing stops republicans from filling this role, registering people to vote, helping get them to the polls, assisting with tax preparation and obtaining mortgages, but the republican message doesn't click with people who actually have to work for a living, and/or are out of work or in other ways struggling to make ends meet. Again, pathetic, and why the republicans approval rating is well below 20% except in....wait for it, the deep south. What a surprise. |

I would like to know why Ellison and McCollum continue to support Acorn funding with all the corruption found in Acorn. My real question is how much money is given to Ellison and McCollum by Acorn or Acorn associations such as SEIU both corrupt, and since these two reps accept money from corruption makes one ponder if it looks like a skunk smells like a skunk must be a skunk! |

Read the report prepared for the Catholic Bishops in 1997. It is clear that ACORN has exploited the poor for political purposes. The Catholic Church cut off all funding to ACORN in 2008. Wells |
