Barack ObamaBarack Obama’s decisive victory has afforded him with significant political capital that he will almost certainly exploit during his first few months in office. With Nancy Pelosi in-charge of the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives and Harry Reid leading the Democrat-controlled Senate, Obama’s ‘change’ agenda will likely fly through Congress.

What kind of “change” can we expect to see? Things like tax increases for small businesses, tax ‘refunds’ to people who pay no taxes, socialized medicine, new restrictions on energy use and production and a massive growth in government spending.

Obama has indicated that his first priority will be issuing $1,000 checks to families earning under a certain income threshold and increasing taxes on families and small businesses earning over $150,000 or $250,000 per year (depending on who you listen to). Following that, he says he’s looking for a massive overhaul of our health care system and big changes to our tax system.

Most everyone wants to see changes in health care and the tax code. The question nobody seems to be asking is what kind of change does President-Elect Obama have in mind?

Using history as a guide, single-party rule as we are faced with in a couple short months leads to a certain arrogance in policy-making, unchecked unilateral decision making sometimes with disastrous results. Meanwhile the minority party has little input but to stand by and say “see I told you so,” when things go awry.

Again, looking to the past to predict the future, the ultimate consequence of this scenario is a massive rejection of the party in power by the voters. Mid-term elections tend to go badly for the party that has monopolized power. With Democrats now firmly in the driver’s seat of our federal government, if anything goes wrong, there’s no one else to blame.

We can now demand a vote for "change" in the next election.
If the voters really wanted a change, why were so many incumbents re-elected?

This guys whole campaign was based on code words with coded messages.

Remember when people were saying Sara Palin's mention of "hockey moms" meant she is racist? When in fact all sports are open to everyone without discrimination. So when anyone calls you racist for reasons that are simply irrelevant ask them under what definition racist is...

Re: Get Ready for "Change"    By Shawn on 11/24/2008
Barb, I don't remember the "Hockey Mom" quote being called racist. What I do remember is Palin's continual comments about Obama's "paling around with terrorists" and "Do we really know who Obama is?", and the comments about who the "real Americans" are. Let's talk about the rallies and chants of "terrorist", "kill him", "he's a Muslim". I also remember that Palin never asked the crowd for any civility or respect for their opponent(s).

The politics of fear and hate lost the presidential election. That gives me hope that at least nationwide there is a change. The above article appears to continue to play on the fears and greed of the right wing and ignore how we got into this mess in the first place.

Pleased with his election or not Barack Obama is gaining respect from both sides of the isle for his cabinet choices and strong leadership that is respectful of different opinions.

Dear Shawn,
You are sadly mistaken. Any " respect" for what Obama campaigned on and continues to spew is to eliminate everything American. Independence, freedom, and especially strength. He seems to insist the American people do not have the strength to carry on their lives free and independently. Calling Americans, you and I weak.
Are you denying Obama hung around with terrorists? We know he met one at age 8. Records show he has known one since age 8! Open your eyes and ears. "hockey mom" and "joe six pack" both lines addressed by Samuel Jackson and another time Charles Barkley and another unknown person were all on the bandwagon at different times reading Sara Palin as a racist over these insignificant words. As far as chants of "terrorist", "kill him", "he's a muslim", I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone from Camp Obama setting the others up. I do recall there was an investigation to your mentioning which turned out to be inconclusive- a waste of time. Each individual has the ability to control their own.

And now Harry Ried has touted that he will RAM Amnesty through the Congess as early as this Spring! Oh yea, then we will have to fight for the few jobs left in this country 13 -20 million illegals who are hiding now!!
Since Klobuchar completly supports illegals getting amnesty (even criminals) we are sunk!!
THIS IS NOT CHANGE I WANT TO BELIEVE IN!!!!! And I am a lifelong Dem who was smart enough to vote McCain/Palin!

It takes real money to keep a household and a nation going.

We are now asked to run our homes on “change”, and that will not happen.

The abysmal state of DC is about to get an accelerated push into the totalitarian state, and far too many have not so much as a clue as to his owners (and therefore his) objectives.

In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has steadily snowballed since President Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s and resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for re-enforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is now. Conservative beliefs in individual freedoms do in the end stand for liberty for all Americans, while liberal dictates lead to the breakdown of civilized society -- in short, tyranny. Looking back to look to the future, Levin writes "conservatism is the antidote to tyranny precisely because its principles are our founding principles." And in a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming, immigration, and more -- and illustrates how change, as seen through the conservative lens, is always prudent, and always an enhancement to individual freedom.
