A county judge decided that he will make the laws for Iowa, striking down the state's 1998 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and ordering Polk County to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Minnesota lawmakers have used the excuse that our state's DOMA law provides adequate protection for marriage, but now we can clearly see that this is not the case.
